ICONS Exhibition Photoexhibition Ausstellung Fotoausstellung Trisomie ORIGO Leipzig Über das Recht zu sein About the right to exist

  • A PHOTO EXHIBITION ABOUT THE RIGHT TO EXIST

  • ENG »Icons« is an exhibition featuring portraits of famous icons and archetypes we can all recognise or relate to. The photographs show universal dreams and the desire to be part of pop culture, art or society. However, our icons are depicted by a people who have rarely, if ever, been allowed to stand out, depite having always been among us. These 21 models from all over Sweden have a lot in common: dreams, feelings, and Down syndrome.
  • This exhibition is about more than just photography. It’s about the right to exist and stand out, whoever you are. We all need an icon or role model to relate to. The dreams depicted by these models belong to us all – who wouldn’t have ever dreamt about becoming a queen, an actor, a police office or a mother?
  • »Icons« is a production of Fotografiska Stockholm, one of the world’s largest centers for contemporary photography with branches in New York, Shanghai and soon Berlin, among others. The exhibition is a collaboration between Pär Johansson, director of Glada Hudik Theatre of people with and without disabilities, photographer Emma Svensson and costume designers Linda Sandberg and Helena Andersson.
  • Being visible creates an awareness of difference. All our qualities and flaws make society more colourful, and in some way, we’re all unusual, or different. We're all unique, but not as unique as we might think.
